DIY Purple Party Dress...

Recently completed this purple party dress for a friend who specifically asked for a dress from me for her birthday. I didn't have a problem with making her something because she's always lacing me with cash and prizes on my birthday and she is pure hotness for doing that. Her birthday has long passed, but better late than never, right? I used New Look 6774, but I ended up cutting the "bridesmaid dress" length off to more of a "mini/party dress" length. It ended up looking like an occasion/holiday/party dress to me. I think it could still be worn in warm months, but it'll really shine in the cooler "holiday" months. I tried to style the winter looks like Tracy Reese's Fall 2009 Frock! line with the granny boots and the tights. LOVE every single solitary piece in that collection. My 2nd Maxi Dress...

I recently completed this maxi dress after completely overhauling the dress pattern. One of the biggest changes was that I eliminated the halter tie and made it a racer back instead. I also dropped the neckline a little lot lower. Why? Who knows, because my dress form fills it out up top more than me, lol. Anyhoo, I'm happy with how it turned out.

National Wear Red Day is a program of The Heart Truth, an awareness campaign for women and heart disease that rallies the women’s health community, major corporations, and community groups toward a common goal of greater awareness and better heart health for all women.

Starting on National Wear Red Day, for the first time ever, the public can bid on a selection of designer dresses from The Heart Truth’s celebrity red dress fashion shows through an online auction partnership with Clothes Off Our Back (www.clothesoffourback.org).

First Lady Michelle Obama stuck with her penchant for going off the beaten fashion path by picking emerging designer Jason Wu for her inaugural ballgown.

The cream-colored one-shouldered dress, which had a fitted bodice and flared skirt, was a surprising pick for the First Lady, who has typically worn striking shades such as crimson or plum during key political appearances. Mr. Wu, a 26-year-old designer who was born in Taipei, has been designing for just a few years and only recently got picked up by major stores like Nordstrom.

The New York-based designer, who sells $3,000 to $6,000 evening gowns and day dresses that retail for $1,000 to $4,000, had created a dress for Mrs. Obama in the fall, which she wore in November for a major interview with Barbara Walters. Ikram Goldman, owner of the Chicago boutique, Ikram, where Mrs. Obama shops, had specially ordered that Wu dress for the future First Lady.

My Homemade Maxi Dress...

You'll have to excuse the camera phone shots of my maxi dress, these pics really don't do it justice and I'm really quite proud of it! I finished it last week in time to wear for my birthday. I used a pattern that was for a shorter dress, so I lengthened it considerably. Pockets are also a hugely out of control mild obsession of mine, so of course I added a pair of hidden seam pockets on each side about 3.5 inches down from the empire waist. The weather here is still amenable to wearing something that may seem more suited to spring/summer, especially if paired with a scarf. I kept it basic with a pair of flat red thong sandals and hoop earrings. It was fun to wear!

Let me tell you something about me and anything plaid. If it's plaid, chances are I probably LOVE it.  Which is why when I spotted this dress over at The GAP, I was like, OMG!  This dress is for me.  Even though it does have a kind of "schoolgirl uniform" kinda feel, and it's been a while since I've been a schoolgirl, but don't judge! Am I the only one that feels like these dresses should come with a warning label? I can't say that I would even attempt one of these dresses unless I was all the way right. BCBG's Max Azria has taken over the label (this is his 1st Leger collection) and although he's stayed pretty true to the Leger brand, he did his part to push it forward adding knits and wool accents. The 2008 Red Dress collection is the sixth show in the Bryant Park tents, where designers partner with celebrities to create and show off one-of-a-kind dresses.

Cute Erin Fetherston Dress

I'm such a sucker for cutesy party dresses. Which is why I purchased this antique white chiffon and velvet Erin Fetherston mini dress ($45) from Target's GO! International line. It's so cute on! I've already worn it with a pair of shoes very similar to the ones the model has on. The only difference is that it was a little chilly here last week, so I added a pair of opaque black tights to the mix. Yeah. I think I turned a few heads that day. Fun times.  It's a perfect holiday dress or anytime dress! Erin Fetherston has some of the cutest little holiday party dresses I've seen in a while in Target's GO! International line IMO, but here's a tip, I found her line to run a little small, so if you're planning on purchasing, you may want to go up a size. Or two.

Halle Berry is Cute in Summer White Dresses

White is red HOT for summer, and these two dresses Halle's wearing couldn't be cuter. White dress on the left is by Catherine Malandrino (retails for $375), and the white dress on the right is Velvet by Graham & Spencer which retails for only $98!

Cute Basic Calvin Klein Dress

Sienna Miller wore this simple Calvin Klein frock for her appearance on David Letterman and when I saw her in it, I was just like... wow. At first glance, the dress is pretty basic. But that's the genius of it IMO. It's the sheer "nothingness" of this black racerback dress that makes it so chic. The lines in this dress are as clean as it gets in design, and I've always been a fan of the cleanest of lines.

Absolutely fabulous.

Cute Metallic Mini Dresses

Fabulous bling dresses! I'm surprised that I'm even a fan of this look because it's sooo "out in front." There's no way to assume the role of the shy wallflower while rocking this style of dress. It just can't be done. You're basically walking around like a spotlight! It's a perfect choice for a party dress! And I think it looks equally chic on both the younger (Nikki Hilton, Carmen Electra) and the more "sophistcated" set (Kate Walsh, Sarah Jessica, and Cindy Crawford). The metallic mini trend doesn't doesn't age discriminate! I love it. 

Cute White Lace Mini Dresses

TOTALLY feeling this white lace mini dress trend right now. It's effortless chic at its best IMO. Perfect for summer. I want one! But after finding out the not so bargain prices of the ones pictured (Britney in Philip Lim, $396, Mischa in Juicy Couture, $328, and Kate in Ella Moss, currently SOLD OUT at $158) I think I'll look into making one. Mini dresses are the business this season! I'm loving 'em!

Cute Bright Satin Dresses

Bright satin can be your best friend, or it can be your worst enemy. Satin, if worn as a form-fitted look has the tendency to show every bulge and bump, it can be pretty unforgiving even on the thinnest person, if not worn properly. But if you wear it with the right gear underneath, it can be a definite head turner. It's not the best look for fading into the background though, bright satin has more of an "I'm not afraid of the spotlight. Not even a little bit." kind of vibe. It's not too hard to get used to the reaction you get when you're bold enough to wear one.

I ♥ Dresses With Pockets

I have a strong and undeniable LOVE for dresses with pockets! Cocktail dresses, formal dresses, casual dresses... pockets make any dress even more fabulous in my opinion. It instantly relaxes the look and feel of a dress, and who doesn't wanna be more relaxed? But I'm sure that some, maybe even most, don't share my feelings on this trend. The people at Life & Style Magazine, who did the above story even seem to think that the trend is only "hot this minute". Well I for one hope that this trend lasts... even if I'm the only one hoping, lol!

These bandage dresses should come with a warning label. ATTENTION: Do not attempt if you are not all the way "right". Don't get me wrong, because please believe, if I was all the way right in my tummy, thigh and hip areas, I'd rock every single one of these dresses! This pic could serve as a wonderful motivator though, no? I think it could. Because looking at these chicks make me wanna go and do like an hour on the treadmill right now.

NY Fall Fashion Week (2007): Marc Bouwer

Marc Bouwer is a professional. He knows what to do with a dress. Marc could probably work magic with a dress in the dark with his fingers glued together. He is a dress making wonder. Looking through his collection, I must have ooh'd and aah'd over almost every piece. Simple and elegant. I so love his empire waisted dresses, and the fact that he uses color! That was a huge plus as well. But my absolute fave? That strapless lace number with the bluish, purpleish lining. Yeah, that one has my name all over it.

Rachel Roy Dresses Fall 2007...

Rachel Roy showed off her fall 2007 collection on Wednesday (Jan. 31) in New York, and although I really liked a couple of her pieces (like I don't quite understand why I totally love the little grey mini-dress with the pockets... but I do!) I think that her Spring/Summer collection was a little stronger. I do however, LOVE that she included pockets on almost all of her pieces. A nice touch.

A Cute Dress Re-Done

Well, I had a black dress in my closet that I hadn't worn for YEARS. The dress was just in there.. hanging. This dress was completely forgotten in my closet until I did that Black Mini Dress post, and then a light bulb just went off in my head... So I said to myself, "Self, why don't you just change the hem on this dress and make your own version?

So that's what I did!

Must go somewhere this weekend!

Cute Black & White Dresses for Spring (2007)

I spotted this black and white "trend" over at Elle (2007 Spring Season's Biggest Trends!), but I have to tell you, I have a problem with calling the classic and timeless color combination of black and white a "trend". To me, black and white together NEVER, EVER goes out of style. It's perfect together, it's "yin" and "yang". It's "ebony" and "ivory". It lives together in perfect harmony. Sorry... couldn't resist that one.  But whether it's photographs, movies or clothing, I think black and white is fabulous together.

Cute Black Babydoll Minidresses

Ok, I have to admit, I LOVE this babydoll mini trend!  Sienna Miller wears hers with a bare leg, sandals, matching bag and necklace. "Joan" (Tracee Ellis Ross) wore hers with leggings, black pumps and a headband (cute!) in the "Everybody Hates Monica" episode of "Girlfriends". And the last dress by Foley is lace and is accessorized with black hosiery and pumps. Nice all three ways.

Well, I don't know about ya'll, but I'm loving this color trend for spring (2007)! There's nothing like color to add some punch to the black, tan, navy and grey that's probably already crowding most of our closets. And if you're still thinking that color is a bit too much for you, how about trying it on a smaller scale, like a shoe, purse or a scarf?

Tracy Reese "Plenty" Spring 2007 Dresses

How much do I adore PLENTY Frock, Tracy Reese's new Spring '07 line of dresses???  Tracy's spring dress line was too fab not to share right now...

"There's room to breathe and to eat," Tracy Reese, exclaims of the many easy, pretty dresses in her spring 2007 secondary line, Plenty. Reese is known for cutting a dress just right to flatter a real woman's curves. Together with her bohemian/ladylike aesthetic, part Josephine Baker, part Audrey Hepburn, her dresses give "la vie en rose" to women of all shapes.

Elle Magazine describes the vibe of Tracy's spring collection as very "best friend's closet", that is, if your best friend happened to have the sweetest dress collection imaginable. I have to agree... I am soooo loving these dresses, and who wouldn't? Cute dresses with ROOM TO BREATHE & EAT?
